According to an article published on VENTURES AFRICA, the combined fortune of Africa’s 55 billionaires is $143.88 billion. The average net worth of the members of this exclusive club is $2.6 billion, while the median age of the richest people in Africa is 65 years.

South Africa’s Minister of Science and Technology Derek Hanekom congratulated three South African scientists upon receiving their National Orders from President Jacob Zuma on Freedom Day, 27 April 2013.

Prof Glenda Grey, Prof Quaraisha Abdool Karim and Dr Bernie Fanaroff received National Orders for their outstanding contributions to the country, and also for their revolutionary work in science.

Despite socio-political challenges and  the serial upheavals in South Africa’s mining and agricultural industries, Africa’s largest economy remains the best place to do business in Africa in terms of business destination, a research compiled by business services company Grant Thornton has shown.

The report, titled ‘Emerging Markets Opportunity Index: High Growth Economies’, ranked South Africa 14th out of 27 largest emerging economies surveyed (in terms of their potential for business investment ); significantly showing SA as the highest rated economy on the African continent.
