Paving the way to the Cloud: The Cloud Summerschool 2013 will take place from July 22 to July 26 in Almere, the Netherlands
According to an article published on primeur Weekly Magazine, this year Almere, conveniently located near Amsterdam Airport, will once again host a Cloud Computing Summerschool that will bring together students from all over the world. Keynote lectures will be given by leading European Cloud experts and major Cloud projects such as Contrail. Hence, students get lectures from the persons that are paving the way to the Cloud.
This year's Cloud Summerschool focuses on recent developments in four main topics:
1. Cloud Federation and Multiclouds
Letting applications quickly shift from one Cloud to the other, burst applications out into a large Cloud when needed, and provide seamless access to multiple Clouds: these are hot research topics today.
2. Cloud Storage and Big Data
Cloud Computing is not only about computing or applications, but also about storing and accessing data. Big Data in relation to Clouds is another important research topic. Lecturers from the Dutch Health Hub will illustrate this.
3. HPC Cloud
One of the most successful advanced uses of Clouds is High Performance Computing (HPC), which can easily stress Cloud computing to its limits.
4. Sensor Clouds
A completely new field of Cloud Computing is Clouds consisting of large numbers of sensors. This year this topic is included for the first time in the Summer School programme.
Keynote speakers are: Prof. dr. Dana Petcu of the West University of Timisoara (Multi Clouds), Prof. dr. Antonio Puliafito of the University of Messina (Sensor Clouds), Dr. Jens Jensen of the STFC (Federated Identity Management), and HPC Cloud expert Prof. dr. Wolfgang Gentzsch (HPC Clouds). Many other experts will join them for other in-depth lectures.
The students at the Cloud Summerschool will not only learn how to use all these types of Clouds, but actually learn how to build them. The Cloud Summerschool is working together with the EGI Federated Cloud that will present Europe's most advanced Federated Cloud. The lectures will be complemented by hands-on sessions. One afternoon is dedicated to a students' symposium where students can present and discuss their work with the lecturers.
